Snowshoeing
Snowshoeing has been
around for thousands of years, only recently has it been
gaining popularity as a recreational activity. It’s easy
to learn, it doesn’t require a long list of expensive
equipment, and it’s a great way to explore Minnesota's
natural beauty. People can reach places they wouldn’t
normally reach without their snowshoes carrying them
over deep snowbanks. Seeing the beauty of a snow-covered
area that isn't usually accessible is truly magical.
Not only is
snowshoeing fun, but it’s also a great way to stay in
shape. Snowshoeing uses a lot of muscles that aren’t
ordinarily used. Wearing layers is suggested, just as if
you were skiing or hiking, since it can be quite a
workout.
All Minnesota State
Parks and Forests are open and available for snowshoeing
activities. Snowshoe trekkers have the advantage of
being able to blaze their own trails in the park or
forest and are not confined to a particular area or
trail. Please note however, that snowshoe activity must
be kept off of groomed ski and snowmobile trails.
Stay at Northland
Lodge to explore the beautiful white northwoods scenery
in the trails of surrounding Chippewa National Forest. You will find that snowshoeing is an
excellent way to appreciate the wild and natural beauty
of a winter walk.
